York Races

York Racecourse is one of the jewels in the crown of British racing. This is a brilliant venue, hugely popular with the crowds that flock to its location on the outskirts of the city that shares its name.

Its superb viewing and first-class facilities complement the excellent standard of racing staged at the course.

York races are the stage for significant early-season classic trials, the Musidora Stakes for fillies and the Dante Stakes for colts.

Its three-day August festival features the Juddmonte International Stakes, one of Europe’s premier middle-distance events, and the ever-popular and historic York races Ebor Handicap over one mile and six furlongs.

York Racecourse is a wide, sweeping track with long bends that suit the long-striding galloper.

York Races Tips

York races are extremely competitive and attract elite horses from the leading stables in Britain and beyond.
John Gosden has a very good strike rate with the horses he sends here, many of them partnered by Frankie Dettori, who rides the course extremely well.
James Doyle and Jim Crowley also have noteworthy records at York Racecourse.
In sprints over five and six furlongs, a low draw can be an advantage. York’s open, galloping spaces mean hold-up horses have every chance to pounce close to the line.
