Windsor Racecourse, also known as Royal Windsor Racecourse, is an idyllic setting for some excellent flat racing close to the river Thames and within a stone’s throw of Windsor Castle.
The course is best known for its Monday evening racing through several weeks of the summer and these meetings attract bumper crowds.
The course is a figure-of-eight and much of the action takes place out of sight of the stands, though there is a straight course for races over five and six furlongs.
For much of the early parts of longer races, runners are constantly on the turn, which favours well-balanced, nippy types. But the long run-in at Windsor races means hold-up horses have time to gain momentum and get involved in the finish.
