Tramore Races

Tramore Racecourse is a right-handed, oval-shaped Irish horse racing venue in County Waterford. Although predominantly used for National Hunt action, there are some Flat races held at this track during the four-day August Festival.

By far the biggest event at this course, though, is the Grade 3 New Year’s Day Chase over an extended two-and-a-half mile.

Tramore races are on one of the tightest tracks in Ireland with a full circuit only about seven furlongs in length. While this is a sharp course, it is also undulating with a steep descent to the home turn and uphill finish.

Tramore Races Tips

The combination to follow at Tramore Racecourse during the five seasons from 2015-16 to 2019-20 was trainer Willie Mullins and stable jockey Paul Townend. The County Carlow handler saddled 38 horses to victories out of 99 runners. Townend, meanwhile, rode 26 winners at a 36 per cent strike rate.
From the limited number of Tramore races on the Flat over the five years between 2016 and 2020, Shane Foley was the top jockey with six successes in the saddle and a 38 per cent win ratio.
Trainers who did well at this venue in the same period include Mick Halford, Emmet Mullins, Johnny Murtagh and Fozzy Stack.
