Thurles Races

Thurles Racecourse is a right-handed undulating Irish National Hunt track which hosts jumps horse racing in County Tipperary between October and March. There have also been a limited number of flat meetings at this venue down the years.

A circuit of this oval track is about a mile-and-a-quarter round with a climb in the back straight, descent to the final bend and uphill finish.

The Grade 2 Kinloch Brae Chase over two-and-a-half miles contested here in January has produced Cheltenham Gold Cup winners. For that reason, it is the most important of the Thurles races held each year.

Thurles Races Tips

The top trainer at Thurles Racecourse is Willie Mullins. Not only does he have a 25 per cent career strike rate with his runners there, but in the five seasons between 2015-16 and 2019-20 his record is even better. Mullins, who has had over 200 winners of Thurles races, saddled 44 of those in that time period which is a success ratio of just better than a third.
Over those five seasons, the active jockeys to follow have been Paul Townend (19 per cent win ratio), Davy Russell (18 per cent), Robbie Power (24 per cent) and Jack Kennedy (21 per cent).
