Huntingdon Races

Huntingdon Racecourse is a flat, fast track that hosts jump racing and prides itself on the warmth of its rural Cambridgeshire welcome.

The highlight of its calendar is the Peterborough Chase, run over two miles and four furlongs each December. Among the notable winners of the race are One Man, Edredon Bleu - who won four years running - and triple Gold Cup hero Best Mate.

The tight, right-handed track is a stiff test of jumping and favours horses who race up with the pace.

Huntingdon Races Tips

Nicky Henderson and Dan Skelton are both trainers with excellent records at Huntingdon races, while Fergal O’Brien has an eye-catching strike rate with the runners he sends here.
Dan Skelton’s brother Harry Skelton, his stable jockey, rides plenty of winners at the Huntingdon Racecourse while Richard Johnson, Paddy Brennan and Nico de Boinville also perform impressively.
The onus here is on speed rather than stamina, unless the going becomes very heavy.

Huntingdon Racecourse is right-handed, flat and simple. Fences on the chase course come very quickly and always on the turn on the back. It’s a very sharp track and you see a lot of pace all the time. You normally need to find a positive position right at the start because it’s difficult to get that later in the race.

The hurdle track has an undulating dip up on the home straight that can get slower, so you see a lot swing off the last bend and have to go wide. A massive horse at Huntingdon can feel a bit like a boat on the ocean, you want a nippy little whippet of a horse – then it feels great!
