Downpatrick Racecourse is a right-handed, pear-shaped track used predominantly for National Hunt horse racing over jumps. Based in County Down, Northern Ireland, it is used from March to October.
Situated 24 miles south of Belfast, it is the easternmost venue for the sport on the island of Ireland, but a somewhat sharp and yet undulating course with a short, stiff uphill finish.
Fences in Downpatrick races can be tricky for horses, while the hurdles have to be jumped at an angle due to their positioning on the track.
A full circuit of the course is about a mile-and-a-quarter, with the high-profile event being the Ulster National Handicap Chase over an extended three-and-a-half miles in March.
