Doncaster Races

Doncaster Racecourse is one of the most historic tracks in England. With racing all year round, it’s extremely popular with racing fans.

The flat racing season traditionally gets under way with the Lincoln Handicap, one of the highlights of the spring calendar. Doncaster also hosts the St Leger, the oldest British classic, towards the end of summer.

Jumping fans can enjoy meetings throughout the winter at Doncaster races, with the highlights the Sky Bet Chase and the Grimthorpe Chase, in which some of the best chasers tune up for Cheltenham and the Grand National.

Doncaster Racing Tips

Doncaster Racecourse is one of the flattest, fairest courses in the country. Its excellent drainage ensures the going is never too heavy.
Among flat trainers, Roger Varian has an excellent record at the track, while Sir Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor both have eye-catching strike rates. Andrea Atzeni rides more than his fair share of winners, while Frankie Dettori often makes his trek north pay off.
Leading jumps trainer Nicky Henderson also has a long journey to Doncaster races but his success makes it often worthwhile. David Bass rides plenty of winners and Harry Cobden’s success percentage makes his mounts worth a second look.

Doncaster Racecourse is a flat track that can get very soft and testing with a long run-in. On the hurdle track you can see horses come from behind so it can be kind to a hold-up horse that can peg back the leaders on the long run-in. If you do have a horse that likes to be held up then this track can be great because the time given in the race allows that.

You’ve got Rose Hill just before you swing into the home bend but other than that it’s a fairly simple track to navigate.
