Brighton Racecourse

Brighton Racecourse is extremely quirky. Set high on the downs above the grand old Sussex seaside town, it commands spectacular views over the sea and the surrounding countryside.

It isn’t a circuit, but a left-handed, horseshoe-shaped track of about one mile and four furlongs. The constant undulations, twists and turns make it ideal for small, nippy horses rather than big, long-striding animals.

The highlight of the calendar at this ever-popular track is the three-day festival in early August, where the feature race is the Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy.

Brighton Races Tips

Tony Carroll and local trainer Gary Moore send plenty of runners to Brighton Racecourse and see a healthy return on the investment.
Eve Johnson Houghton and Richard Hannon Jr. also do well with their visits to the south coast.
Tom Marquand and Jim Crowley top the jockeys’ charts, but it’s worth noting Adam Kirby’s rides because of his very healthy strike-rate at the track.
Look for well-balanced, athletic horses that like to lie handy and check out horses who have run well at the track before. The demands of Brighton Racecourse are so unusual that course form is a big plus here.
