The Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is a Grade 3 Hurdle Race held at the Old Course at Cheltenham Racecourse. The race incorporates eight hurdles over a distance of 2 miles and 110 yards; it is open to horses over the age of four and is hosted annually in November. The prize money for the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is currently an estimated £100,000.
Greatwood, the current sponsor of the event, is a charity for the welfare of retired racehorses and has supported the Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham since 2003. The Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is a relatively new addition to the National Hunt/Hurdle calendar, having been inaugurated in 1988; and it has been hosted under a number of different names over the years. Originally the race was given a Listed Status but it quickly rose in the ranks due to its great popularity and the calibre of horses attracted by the solid challenge the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle represents. Since 2004, the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is classified as a Grade 3 event.
